When to use pkexec vs. gksu/gksudo? Thanks Paul, for lots of helpful analysis here! But I also agree with Flimm. Can you start off with a simple answer to the question as asked? |

youtube-dl is not working This is actually a bug, and I entered a launchpad bug *bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/youtube-dl/+bug/1128610) that refers to the upstream fix. |

Wireshark problem. Can't select default interface This is unnecessarily dangerous and problematic, because there are far more exploitable bugs when running the full gui as root, and configuration issues can crop up when a gui program runs as root. See the dpkg-reconfigure solution at How do I run WireShark, with root-privileges? - Ask Ubuntu for a much better option |

Wireshark problem. Can't select default interface The answers here are more dangerous than the standard "sudo dpkg-reconfigure wireshark-common" approach, which is documented in this question: How do I run WireShark, with root-privileges? - Ask Ubuntu. This question is essentially a duplicate of that one. |

No facility exists in Update Manager to upgrade to a new version, why? Wow, this is surprisingly hard to find, particularly given that you actually have to quit the thing after telling it what you want. And especially on my netbook, where the "settings" button isn't visible because the update manager window is too large for the display. And there is no menu. I wonder what fraction of users are expected to ever upgrade from an LTS to another non-LTS version? |

How do I integrate gmail? Please do be more specific. For old linux geeks who have no idea what the modern notion of "webapp integration" into Unity means, check out webapps - How do I use Ubuntu's web application integration? - Ask Ubuntu |

Why did Ubuntu remove SpiderMonkey package? @Mitch thanks for the pointer. But that stackoverflow answer doesn't address the question here, of why SpiderMonkey was removed. It just compares it with rhino. |
