comment Network Issues since Trusty
Thanks for the helpful notes. That workaround worked for me, but it only fixes one SSID at a time. And this is not "harmless", as the dozens of commentators on launchpad bug 1323089 have made clear. Spamming the syslog makes it hard to see other problems, wastes disk space, and above all wastes people's valuable time. It should be fixed!

comment How can I split an animated .gif file into its component frames?
I opened my gif in gimp, but I still don't know how to view each frame individually - I just see the last frame. I'm working with this animation: /tmp/Non-Native-American-Nations-Territorial-Claims-over-NAFTA-countries-1750-20‌08.gif

comment How to print a regular file to pdf from command line
An example of using a2ps would help. The --delegate option seems to be needed for pdf, but the man page doesn't really help there.

Compared to the other answers, pandoc plus texlive produces bad output (not respecting newlines), and is overkill and confusing to boot. Lots more packages are needed, pulling in texlive, texlive-fonts-recommended, ruby, etc. E.g. I get pandoc: Unknown writer: pdf until I install texlive-latex-base. This is on trusty. See github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/1155 Then I got an error about a missing font, then one about url.sty, etc.

It would absolutely be useful to have shotwell track and update downstream web publishing platforms. And it is very important to keep description metadata with photos, so I'd love it if you could at least send the title and description to e.g. picasa / google plus when you publish an album. That is still not happening with shotwell 0.18.0 in Ubuntu Trusty despite pleas from places like the Library of Congress, who worry that our digital heritage is being forgotten: blogs.loc.gov/digitalpreservation/2011/10/…

Well-written, surprising answer - thanks! But it is hard to stomach 625 MB of download for wine, so I'm hoping Ian B gets some help with his cute little python app....

comment How to use Rhythmbox python console
Note that some of these examples no longer work in Trusty. See some hints on what to do instead of shell.add_to_queue() here - though it looks much more complicated, unfortunately: mail.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2011-April/…

Thanks. So disappointing. Perhaps someone who knows the process will could either create a gnome bugzilla issue or point us to an existing one, where people who stumble across this roadblock could express their interests and uses cases for this issue to the developers, and follow feedback or progress. And a pointer to the source code process (ala askubuntu.com/a/351533/6130) would indeed be great.

comment How to install .bundle packages in Ubuntu?
It varies for different bundle files. On Trusty, file Downloads/VMw* says VMware-Player-7.0.0-2305329.x86_64.bundle: data Instead you can see what the file starts with via ` cat -vt ~/Downloads/V*|more` which shows it starts with a line indicating it is a shell script: #!/usr/bin/env bash
