comment BIOS not detecting boot files for 14.04LTS single OS installation
I just did a fresh install of 14.04 and got the "no boot disk" error on restart. Simply mounting my EFI partition and copying ubuntu/grubx64.efi to BOOT/bootx64.efi fixed my problem. I got "permission denied" when I tried to use a symbolic link. Thanks for the tip, Rod!

I have the same problem. FWIW, I noticed that your boot-repair output also says that "-y" is an unrecognized update-grub option...

comment How can I turn off “eye candy” and make Ubuntu run as fast as possible?
Also, the 2194 question is from the 10.04-era (pre-Unity, no?) whereas the OP asks about the 12.04 ("latest version"). I agree with him---it's easier to configure Win XP wrt visual performance vs. appearance.
