How can I get samba users from the same group to edit each others files? You shouldn't use inherit permissions with create mode/directory mode, as it overrides their behavior. That said your configuration should work if "jane" is a member of somegroup. |

Log in password no longer works after using remote desktop Can you get to a root terminal by selecting recovery mode in grub boot menu? You probably will need to hold down Shift key during boot to see the menu. If you can get to a root terminal we may be able to figure out what is going wrong. |

How do I make the PolicyKit authentication agent window not dissapear when I enter faulty password in Gnome-Shell Ubuntu 12.04? That is the limit of my experience with PK. As a work around, you may try creating a new .desktop file for synaptic that uses gksudo instead of pkexec. I don't know if gksudo will perform better, but it may. The fact that the behavior is different with Gnome Shell would indicate that this may be a bug. Perhaps someone else will have a better solution. Good Luck. |

Monitor shows 'no signal' after Nvidia driver installation (ubuntu 12.04 amd64) I' glad that it is at least working. You could use this ppa then install nvidia-graphics-drivers if you want to try the newest stable drivers (295.53). It may cause the same problems, but it may work. Good Luck |

What does your /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/com.ubuntu.pkexec.synaptic.policy file look like? Specifically the defaults - allow_active field. If it is auth_admin_one_shot that would explain the behavior. If so, just change it to auth_admin. |

Monitor shows 'no signal' after Nvidia driver installation (ubuntu 12.04 amd64) Can you try sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current nvida-current-updates nvidia-settings from terminal followed by sudo mv /usr/X11/xorg.conf /usr/X11/xorg.conf.nvidia.old and see what happens. You will need to reboot. This should drop you back to the nouveau drivers. If that works, you can try to reinstall the nvidia-current-updates driver from Additional Hardware. Let me know how it pans out. |

recovering raid 0 hard disk If all of the data on the third disk is replaceable, you might try to copy the data from the "bad" disk to the third disk and restore the array. This might save some of the data. The instructions on the Ubuntu Community Wiki may be helpful here. |

recovering raid 0 hard disk Unfortunately, this is the real limitation with RAID 0. Because the filesystem is written across both devices and different blocks of single files are spread between the two, a failure in one device is mostly a failure of both. This is somewhat by design as your system can write 1/2 of the blocks to one device while synchronously (almost) writing to the other, performance is increased. What make are your hard disks? You might be able to use the manufacture's recovery tools to check the disks. It is a long shot, but worth a try if there is a lot of data at stake. |
