Just Installed Ubuntu - Mostly empty screen that doesn't respond to mouse clicks or keyboard btw, the problem still exists in 13.04, Ubuntu is broken out of the box with the open source driver on an AMD Radeon HD 6950 |

Why did I have to edit /etc/lsb-release to get apt-get to work? I tried that, it didn't work. I then did a dist upgrade (since quantal is out now) which changed the file to look like yours (only difference is DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.10") and apt-get works. Got me why. |

Resuming an upgrade to 12.04 which got stuck on reconfiguring dropbox you saved my bacon, thanks! |

Cloned Ubuntu to SSD, how to get grub recognize it? I decided to manually edit the grub.cfg file, and manged to boot it using the grub on the original disk. The system was very messed up though (and the original system was somewhat messed up.) Graphics driver issues at shutdown, startup, dropping into a busybox initramfs shell during startup, etc. I eventually abandoned the idea as too much work. I could buy a new computer with the time I spent. That's been my whole experience with Ubuntu for the last year. If I didn't need it for work I would never use it again. |

Cloned Ubuntu to SSD, how to get grub recognize it? Yes, I can mount it and access it just fine, everything appears in order. I haven't added an entry to my current grub.cfg, I only edited the clone one. How can I (should I?) add an entry to my current config for the clone? I guess I can just copy it, but the big "DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE" makes me pause. |

Copy to USB memory stick really slow? "I have a super talent 32GB USB SSD in the neighboring port and it works at expected speeds." it was in there, but well hidden I will admit :) So what's this hdparm stuff you allude to? |

Copy to USB memory stick really slow? that doesn't make sense that it would defer it for one type of USB but not another. Also I seem to recall linux calls sync every 30 seconds or so? Might be outdated. I'm expecting this is some kind of driver or compatibility issue since it depends on the type of device. |

How can I back up my ubuntu system? @psusi thanks, that fixed my problem. I incorrectly assumed ubuntu was running deja-dup as root. The question could be rephrased and an answer given, but for me the problem is resolved and google should still pick this up for those who have the same problem anyway. |
