comment Internet in Ubuntu 14.04 goes fast and then slow
Remember to examine all the software interactions too, not just the hardware and external stuff. That is helpful of course, but you might be having some CPU starvation problems too.

comment Internet in Ubuntu 14.04 goes fast and then slow
Sorry not really enough information to help. You'll have to do a lot more monitoring and detective work as the problem may actually lie outside your domain with the ISP you are using. You could have other interferences with other processes? Your home networking equipment could be going bad. Your ethernet cable could be going bad. What about power fluctuation. I hope that you are getting the point here that you need to investigate this a LOT more yourself from ALL aspects. Just saying things are slow at times is not very helpful and will yield low quality answers.

comment Why did my sound all of the sudden stop working?
You know software is not totally error free? What happens if you reboot does the problem clear up? What happens if you terminate processes using the sound, sometimes a program asks for EXCLUSIVE access to the sound device and is not nice and will not share it.

comment Saving corrupted hard drive
You most likely have a hardware drive failure. Personally, I'd throw out the disk and get a new one....they are relatively inexpensive these days and using a failing drive is really not worth the trouble and worry.

I'd try to find the appropriate driver and install it for your wireless card.

Are you sure the indication is not wrong? If you use an off-brand battery, there might be issues.

comment Reallocate partition space from /boot to /
Would help if you could include the partitioning table details (output of fdisk print option). In any event you might be in for a little work.

comment My wifi driver is not working?
One issue is that there are many many different versions of hardware supporting wifi. I think you'll have to search for a specific driver that is supporting your particular chipset. The default installation obviously does not support the chipset you are using.

comment grep to get compile error
Hmmm....why go about in this hard way, why not simply use the exit code from the gcc command (which is what make uses) and test that. It is far simplier.

comment Signal called on user logout
You are making an assumption without putting coding to verify and report what is exactly happening. Have you thought of disabling the signal mask for these things?
