comment BIOS not recognizing hard drives
Looks like you have a marginal drive. Could also be one with connector tolerance problems (again a hardware issue).

comment Hardware issue for Dell D820 — “cloudy” screen crash
Maybe time for either computer hardware repair or a new laptop? I don't think that this is software or driver related. Thus since you know this is a hardware issue (from the title) what really can we all do specifically for you?

What about reinstalling 14.04 LTS from scratch AFTER pulling off any files that you save/restore. I have had problems with doing upgrade installs in the past. Also, it could save you a lot of anguish, time, effort, etc....rather than sticking with what you have and slogging through it.

Not very much here to help anybody diagnose and provide you with useful answers. Why are you so sure that your hardware is ok? Also, why not upgrade to a later version of Ubuntu because you may have some type of driver problem?

comment Ubuntu 14.04 does not recognize my battery
Ahh...am I missing something here? You have one of the following problems: (1) battery is dead and cannot be recharged - replace battery, (2) your charger is no longer working and battery is not recharged - replace the charger, (3) the battery in question is not the vendor choice and thus may no longer be meeting all the specifications the vendor requires, (4) mating problem inside the laptop where the battery is no longer making proper contact.

If you were tying to do this with NFS, I'd be suggesting using the autofs (automonter) capability.
