“df -h” command puts line breaks in output. How do I fix? Ack. I was using "df --help" rather than "man df" . thanks for the reminder. |

Do I need to tweak sysctl.conf to improve performance? It would be awesome if Ubuntu provided some syscntrl profiles that could be used, depending on what a server is used for. Or maybe people think that the benefits are not enough to notice. |

How to change the resolution of my desktop? I'm a pretty advanced user and I find that sometimes, its easier to re-install my OS , than it is to try to hack the X window settings or rely on a driver update that is "claimed" to work. |

Why is it bad to run as root? The difficulty of getting into root mode varies between distros. I personally am annoyed by how Fedora doesn't allow you to 'sudo' right out of the box. OpenSUSE and Ubunto do have pre-configured sudo though... and so if you choose the right distro, you can minimize your annoyances at not being able to get access to files. |

Why is the 64bit 10.10 ISO labeled amd64.iso? I prefer the terminology "x64" although the acronymn may not be correct. |

Will Ubuntu 11.04 work on my old pc? 128MB of video memory is plenty to get a 1920x1200 resolution on your monitor. |
