In my opinion, change file system permissions to get Samba to behave correctly is just being lazy when there is most likely a good Samba configuration that would accomplish what you need.

yeah, also , keep in mind that you can put a 32bit jdk on 64 bit linux and also run the 32bit eclipse. that is what I do. of course, you have to fiddle with alternatives to make that work though.
