I have an engineering background and have a passing interest in what seems to be increasingly-outdated interest in software!

I've just become a father for the 2nd time round, and when I'm not being a dad or a husband I ride MTB, and occasionally play keys in a band.

Given there seem to be other instances of people having this problem I thought the symptoms were more relevant than my objective, however point taken! Details added...

comment 12.04 occasionally freezes when Image Viewer opens pictures, possibly graphics driver related?
GFx- it's an motherboard-integrated Intel chipset on a Dell Vostro 400. I think it's a 945G, one of that family anyway; either way I believe the xf86 intel driver is supposed to be the thing I need. Viewnoir- ok I'll give that a shot sometime soon. Bug- yep, fair point. Still trying things to at least work around it, when I'm a bit further along I'll post it up.

Thanks LiveWireBT- new partition not required but I'll bear your tip in mind if I ever need to do that. Other than that- resizing performed and no errors, despite the (generic) alerts generated while it did it! Thanks all.

Being paranoid from such problems in the past, all data is backed up on 3 separate drives (including 1 NAS) and in the 2 internal HDs data is held on different partitions to OSs (Windows on 1 HD, Ubuntu on the other). So adjusting the divide between the Ubuntu partition and swap partition shouldn't affect any data as it should only affect the internals of the Extended partition.

Additional: please ignore the symptoms I make reference to for now re: large image files- I want to focus on the swap partition. There are other things I'm doing at the same time to try to address the symptoms, but so if they don't work I'll be posting a related question! Cheers.
