comment Display Current branch name in ubuntu terminal
I'm not even sure that's right for the OP's use case, better they just cd to the project directory!

comment Display Current branch name in ubuntu terminal
git branch will report only if the current working directory is in the repository you want to track.

comment Display Current branch name in ubuntu terminal
@Serg I think this is a strange usecase. Showing the branch of the repo that the directory is contained in is usually what you want.

comment Display Current branch name in ubuntu terminal
git branch works if you're in a subdirectory of the repository... are you suggesting that you want this to show the branch name of sergrep no matter which directory/repository you are in?

comment Why does Ubuntu still require restart after kernel updates when tools out there mean it's unnecessary?
@EliahKagan Yes, but the accepted answer is here IMO better. It should be migrated if/as this is closed. Thanks!

comment Using pip3-installed python 3 packages when apt-installed packages exist too?
I think the python/ipython version is different to what pip3 is installing to. Did you install ipython3 via pip?

comment What is the best way to install python packages?
@naught101 I think I probably meant scipy, not sure if it's related... looks like pip is too late in the python path. I strongly recommend using anaconda/conda, it's vastly superior to pip IMO.

Note: currently there is an issue with the emacs-snapshot build - they haven't been updated since January since the emacs-snapshot Debian build is currently without a maintainer: see NEWS section of the PPA: launchpad.net/~cassou/+archive/emacs

comment How do I install Python Pandas?
Ensure you're getting the most up to date version of pandas (the one in the repo is 0.7 whilst the latest stable is 0.13.1).

comment How do I install Python Pandas?
Worth mentioning that this will install the much older version 0.7 of pandas was bundled in 12.04 (the current version is 0.13.1).

comment How can I install elementary OS on Ubuntu?
I see this on both 13.04 and 13.10 "E: Unable to locate package elementary-meta", it's strange as it looks like it's built in the ppa launchpad.net/~elementary-os/+archive/daily

comment What is the best way to install python packages?
This is fine for simple packages, but not so good for larger packages e.g. numpy

comment How can I install elementary OS on Ubuntu?
Thanks! It's weird cos it appears in the list (on the daily ppa site) but isn't available to install (other elementary packages are). Perhaps it's a temporary problem?

elementary-meta appears not to be available in that package... :s
