comment What programming languages are scopes written in?
Did the dev team consider Go instead of C or Python? I know that some Ubuntu things (for example, Juju) are written in Go.

@RaphaelStary thanks for letting me know! You switch this in bios, right? If you're using discrete mode, are you able to just use the thinkpad display? It's quite unfortunate that NVidia's optimus is so convoluted that true Linux support for it doesn't work :(

@OSE thanks for letting me know. I'm running 13.04. I haven't been able to get my thinkpad display to work with discrete mode enabled in bios. I'll have to poke around on the weekend or something to get this all to work. It's good to know that it at least works for you (means it might work for me!).

Does this allow you to display to an external monitor and the Thinkpad's display?

This pattern (echo VALUE | sudo dd of=/path/to/file) is very useful. Thank you very much!

This feels like a shot in the dark, but perhaps you should try removing it thru the software center, then installing it through apt-get on the command line (apt-get install conky). There's a few packages: $ apt-cache search conky conky - highly configurable system monitor (transitional package) conky-all - highly configurable system monitor (all features enabled) conky-cli - highly configurable system monitor (basic version) conky-std - highly configurable system monitor (default version) Try the conky-all one first.
