I'm an embedded systems engineer for Premier Systems. I design small electronics for a variety of fields. I mostly program in assembly and c for micro-controller applications, however lately I have been using the .net framework with c# to make web and desktop applications.

comment Language changed to Chinese, how do I change it back?
This is a much better answer than @adamoxford because it allows you to fix the problem without having to try to figure out Chome's settings page that, because of the bug, is in Chinese! Thanks a ton!!!

comment When I encrypt my home directory in Ubuntu, how does it affect programs trying to access my home directory?
I may be mistaken, but I think it is ecryptfs-utils not ecrypt-utils so the install line would be: 'sudo apt-get install ecryptfs-utils'

comment VirtualBox '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' issue
Just install the linux-headers as you pointed out, then sudo ./etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup will take care of updating dkms.

comment Gnome-shell fails to load on 12.10
Are you using Gnome-Shell 3.6? And only 1 monitor or more? I'm asking because I have a similar setup with 3 monitors and cant get it to work at all with the fglrx drivers.

+1 Same problem here! For at least a week now. Using Google Chrome and 3 monitors with the default Displays handler on Mint 13 with Gnome-Shell. Hadn't had any problems till just last week or so.
