comment Safely move (and extend) Ubuntu Partition
I think that, by default, GParted will move the data in the partition to the left when the partition is resized (see: gparted.org/…)

comment How to enter newline in table cell where the text orientation is vertical (Libreoffice Writer)?
I tried Trusty (which included LO 4.3.7.2) on my machine using a Live USB and could get Line 1 and Line 2 oriented vertically using Shift-Enter as shown in my screenshot. I don't know what else to suggest to truly solve your issue. However, if you need to work around the problem and just carry on, create an image of the vertical text and insert that into the cell as the title. You won't be able to edit it directly, but it will look the part!

What version of LibreOffice Writer are you using? The screenshot is from the latest release (Version 4.2.8.2) of LibreOffice for Linux Mint. It sounds like Enter and Shift-Enter have the same effect for you. On my system Enter works as you describe (Line 2Line 1 displayed vertically), but Shift-Enter gives the result shown.

comment how can i delete my hard drive and format to NTFS
Do you have Ubuntu installed now? In any case, if you install a version of Windows, there will be an option to format the disk. See for example "Do I need to format my hard disk before installing Windows 7" ( windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/…)

comment Where can I find out if Ubuntu should install on old pc hardware - Specifically Dell optiplexG620
Did you try typing optiplex into the search box at the top of the page? You will find that Ubuntu has been installed on many models. The live-CD will tell you specifically about Ubuntu on your particular hardware.

comment How can I merge free space partition with primary ntfs partition using Gparted in Ubuntu 14.04?
You need to shuffle the partitions around - slide sda5 to the right of the extended partition, then shrink the extended partition to bring the free space outside. I think this puts the free space on the left of the extended partition. If this is indeed the case, you can then extend sda1 using the free space. If this isn't totally accurate, you need to move the partitions around until the free space is adjacent to the Windows partition. The link provided by Curtis Gedak seems to provide good information on the re-arranging process.
