Hi there!

I spend most of my time writing python code for a security company. I enjoy learning new things everyday and helping out in solving small problems when I have some time.

I've recently started writing a blog with the things I've learned and/or considered interesting while doing python code reviews. I hope it's helpful to some of you.

You can know more about me by looking at my Careers 2.0 profile or at my LinkedIn profile.

comment Why do packages fail to install from command line
Have you looked at /var/log/apt/*.log and /var/log/dpkg.log? Maybe there's some information there that can be used to troubleshoot the problem.

comment How to fix a ruined package catalog?
I don't think you have exactly that same problem, but instead of repairing the package database, you might want to try to recover it from a backup as explained here.

comment How do I force apt-get to install a package that will not install due to a bug introduced by Ubuntu 11.10?
One more thing, since you're probably going to copy the .py files to a directory with root permissions, then it's a good idea to byte compile those files using python -m compileall <dir>.

comment Recursively rename files - oneliner preferably
I believe that's the reason it didn't work for you. The answer from @ams with find -print0 and xargs -0 uses the null character as a separator to avoid whitespace problems in the file names.

What's the error you got when executing the command found in the other answer? Does any of your filenames contain a space in it?

comment Bash history handling with multiple terminals
@VineetMenon For more details look here. Interesting parts: When the shell starts up, the history is initialized from the file named by the HISTFILE variable (default `~/.bash_history'). [...] When an interactive shell exits, the last $HISTSIZE lines are copied from the history list to the file named by $HISTFILE.
