I use Ubuntu as my primary operating system and absolutely love it. I am also a software developer fluent in C++, PHP, and somewhat-fluent in Python.

Thanks. Are there any implications of using an older version of QtWebKit? (The latest version is 3.0.)

Copying-and-pasting your code results in this: i.stack.imgur.com/MICdj.png I didn't mention it in the question, but I'm using Trusty. This might be a bug.

comment Can I run the Ubuntu SDK in Windows?
This is correct - the Ubuntu UI QML components depend on a binary plugin that would be very difficult to compile on Windows (since it has a number of external dependencies).

I have 8GB of RAM and well over 100GB of free disk space so that's certainly not an issue. I am running Trusty (though I'm not sure about the OP), so that shouldn't be a problem either.

comment How to run GUI applications remotely on a headless server?
@user3344830 Are you sure Xming is running? There should be an icon in the system tray. Sometimes closing PuTTY and opening it and trying again helps.

I assume that "access via PuTTY" refers to SSH access.

This isn't necessarily true. You can use X11 forwarding to run graphical applications locally. Installing a VNC server would work, but would waste resources by running X11 on the server.
