thanks for the detailed steps, I am testing that now. Btw, shouldn't I use cp -r instead of cp? Also, I guess that markings lists can be easily exported without GUI with dpkg --get-selections > my_selections

@Rinzwind, I know how rsync works, but I need some software that syncs operational systems and their configurations, not just files/dirs

john, could you please elaborate on steps 2 and 3? Also, do you think it is possible to automate the process with Synaptics? I usually install stuff with apt-get.

comment Thunderbird: Missing folders after restore
I did that before and unfortunately it did not help. I just double checked the profiles.ini file and the Path section, everything is correct there. I have all the accounts, news, plugins imported, but the POP accounts miss all the messages and folders.
