I spend most of my time studying C, C++, and mathematics. I prefer to be talking to memory directly, as opposed to using higher level languages such as C# or Java. Part of the reason I choose to not use these languages is because of how proprietary they have become. With Oracle's acquisition of Java and Microsoft's reign over C#, I find that, while they make things easier on the developer, a developer who only knows how to program in these languages hasn't learned much beyond the scope of what that language provides, and therefore is reliant on the "ease of use" it gives. Hence, I choose C and C++. Some would consider this a self-righteous statement, and in many respects, it is :P.
