Hmm, interesting. I have reproduced this actually. This happens, though, with or without Byobu, if you use GNU Screen or Tmux. It looks like a bug in Screen and Tmux.

This was a bug at one point. Can you check you version of Byobu with 'byobu -v'? I expect that this is fixed in the most recent versions.
