I Like to build and repair computers. I have both a Cubieboard, and Raspberry Pi. I also enjoy refinishing wood furniture.
I like using the terminal, writing basic shell scripts, and sometimes even installing from source :)

How can I get back to a login screen after a freeze? What make/model is your laptop, there may be certain driver/graphics (might explain the complete unresponsive freeze) issues with the new version, also does your keyboard have a "fn" key - this is often used to save space on keyboards - but you may need to use with "F1" (just a thought; unless ctrl+alt+F1 brings up tty1 normally) |

Some programs on windows have protection systems that range from trivial (only allowing D: drive to be used) to advanced, Have you tried running a Windows based image mounting program on WINE. Without further details about the program you want to get working, all we can do is list all the possible ways to mount a image, with all the programs, which is covered by other questions. |

Where are you getting $139 from, are you talking about other software than just the OS... just so you know open source software is avaible on the mac so you don't need to buy things like iwork and ilife. What are the differences between Mac OS and Linux? I think you have it backwards, it is the Gpl that is restricting the free use on a closed platform. Now instead of having free access to an open source program ( where the source code could easily be accessed/modified/redristributed, if a link to orgnial code was provided), you would need to become a developer yourself and pay Apple $99 to do it. |
