comment Why do this PDF's fonts appear unreadable on my machine?
Thanks, this solved my problem. Rather than following your instructions to install Garamond, I installed texlive-fonts-extra from the package manager. The tip to check for unembedded fonts is useful--is there any easy way to see which fonts I have installed?

This solution appears to have fixed my problems. I will update if any issues arise from using an old status file.

comment How can you access a folder you want quickly?
@Takkat: I tried again today, and it worked. Yesterday, I was trying to add my newly created Dropbox folder as a bookmark, and I tried several times. I closed and re-opened my nautilus windows, but I did not restart nautilus. Maybe nautilus just required a restart? I'd file a bug if I could reproduce.

On Ubuntu 12.04, selecting "Add Bookmark" has no effect.

comment How can I use compiz “screen edges”?
@Jorge: My question really is specifically about 11.10. The question is irrelevant in previous versions of Ubuntu. What is the rationale for removing that part of my title?

comment Can't login to 11.04 ~90% of the time
Thanks, @htorque. Out of curiosity, why does ubuntu-bug now point me to askubuntu.com? I suspected that askubuntu was the wrong platform for this question, but was thrown off by ubuntu-bug's directions.

comment What are the alternatives to OS X's Spotlight?
@Ingo: Awesome! I will make that the accepted answer once 11.04 comes out. Until then, I think answers for previous versions of Ubuntu will be more useful to visitors.

comment How do I turn off mouse acceleration?
@ulidtko: I game a bit from time-to-time (the extra accuracy really matters), and use Ubuntu for everything else. I want consistency in my mouse settings between my Windows and Ubuntu installs.

comment How can I install Windows after I've installed Ubuntu?
At least in Ubuntu 10.10, grub-pc is included on the live CD (so you can skip the line sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install grub-pc).

What's wrong with Evince (the PDF reader that is included with Ubuntu)?

@Voyagerfan5761: Done. Good call, I was wondering why there were so many questions about touchpads.

@DoR: Awesome! It's even in Maverick, you don't have to wait until Natty to get it.

Or just ls -R if you don't want all the details.

I don't think it can be S3's fault, because Dropbox also uses S3: dropbox.com/help/7

Doesn't Wubi install permanently as well? I didn't think you still needed to burn a disc/flash drive.

comment Why is the default wallpaper in jpg format, rather than a lossless format like png?
You're probably right, but that's not an answer to my question. There some reason (which I assume is a good reason) that the Ubuntu developers decided to make the default a jpg. I'd like to know if that reason is purely hard disk/live CD space, or if there are other reasons as well.
