Did you do 'apt-get -f install' separately first, and then try to install beanstalkd?

Just did. I felt like it was a question moreso than an answer, originally.

comment How to get display settings persistent?
Which version are you on? In 12.04 at least, it is possible to apply a configuration without saving it to xorg using the GUI tool, in which case your settings aren't persistent.

comment Web Development in Ubuntu 12.04, I don't want to go back to Windows
Eclipse is a pretty useful IDE to use, a lot of toolkits have Eclipse plugins. There are (arguably) better IDEs out there, but Eclipse is so widely adopted that it is easy to find support for, and that is pretty handy. It's also in the official repos, so you can install it through the Ubuntu Software app.

Has your keyboard toggled the "insert" key for overtype?

comment Magical Unchanging Flash Storage
The LiveCD worked fine, but a fresh install (on a different partition of the same drive) didn't. Upgrading to 12.04 did fix the problem though, so whatever it was it's gone now.

I tried safe removal, no happy. Upgrading to 12.04 fixed it though. :)

The drives work fine on my Windows7 machine. My Ubuntu box can read, but not write to, any of the devices. (Though it thinks it can, as described.)

comment Where can I download the drivers for a Canon MP 420 Series?
Often you can find printer drivers for Linux at openprinting.org/printers, but I don't see any "MP 420" there. I also don't see any Canon "MP 420" on the official site though, so perhaps that isn't the model name? It'd be worth a check.
