comment Permission denied when using make install
As this is tagged "software-installation": a vast amount of programs can (and in general should) be installed via Softwarecenter or apt-get. Next would be installing a .deb file. The make install way of doing things is for rather advanced users, and even then I frankly do not remember when I had to do that for the last time... Are you a developer? Then simply run sudo apt-get install libxml2-dev.

comment Why is the IP “92.242.140.21” connecting to one of my ports? Is it Malware?
Google shows some threads if you search for that IP. Here someone claimed he saw connection to that IP after his router was hacked: forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/…

comment Is my computer capable of running Ubuntu? If so, what version is recommended?
Better get the 64-bit version. 4gb should be enough to run it, and despite 32-bit can address 4gb of ram, 64 bit means more registers and faster execution.

comment Why does my system use so much cache?
If your computer "seems to get slow" you should have a look at top or the process list and see if there's any process consuming more cpu time than you would expect. Having all your RAM "eaten up" by cache is no reason for concern as explained in the answers you already got.

comment Can I update from 13.10 to 14.04 safely?
How do you assume you can upgrade safely to a development version? If you need your data, stick to a stable version.

comment Steam opengl glx context is not using direct rendering
I just yesterday read somewhere that a user reported on his system software rendering was used, and the advice was to add that user to the video group. He reported back that this fixed the issue for him . I don't know if yours is the same problem, but probably worth a try. (Sorry, but I really don't remember where I read that.)

comment High cpu use from init and yes [Ubuntu 12.04]
Have you tried to find out where yes is being started from? It seems more than strange to have it constantly running. It looks like a script is going wild.

comment The eclipse application icon is huge in Unity's dash
Oh. I first saw this after upgrading to 12.10 and eclipse Juno and thought perhaps it was because of the new eclipse version. I will check of the problem still persists (after all the updates that came in the meantime). If it does, I will file a bug against Ubuntu 12.10.
