comment Debian Stable vs Ubuntu LTS for Server?
The fact that Ubuntu is deployed in mission critical applications around indicates its stability and testing but most important, its the HWE. In case of Debian, forget about using an updated package or hardware.

comment Ubuntu 14.04 LTS crashes often
I am aware of that but I have three x250 at my univ and all are running good, two on LTS Ubuntu and one on Gentoo and thats why I am trying to diagnose whats causing your crashes. TLP is an added advisory.

That caveat is important and thats why I am suggesting that you try out 15.10 that officially comes with kernel 4.2

comment Low Wifi signal in ubuntu 14
From all the reports I read, the recommendation is to use kernel 4.2 where Realtek driver is fixed from this issue. Most reliable way is to update to 15.10 for now.

Another very valid point, unlike my SONY Xperia Z3, the Nokia 1020 is very sensitive to this issue.

comment Installing CUDA purges previous NVIDIA driver installation
After you install driver, make sure to install nvidia-modprobe and then install CUDA via deb file from Nvidia for latest one. During install deselect installation of driver.

In your case you need kernel 4.2 with realtek drivers for connection to work well. Please use Wily 15.10 or add mainline kernel ppa to get kernel 4.2

comment Ubuntu is relatively unstable
I have been deploying Ubuntu since last ten years from university where I teach to schools, corporate environment, labs and many other places, no issues of any stability. In fact its the most polished current LTS around. You definitely have some installation issues. Download latest 14.04.3 and do a fresh clean install and then see if issue persists. You are using Intel graphics so no secondary drivers for it needed.

comment Skype cannot be installed on Ubuntu 14.04.1
@Byte Commander, thanks. many new users tend to get wrong advice and download Skype and install and that can lead to lots of issues, always safer via Ubuntu repository.
