I have a similar issue. For me my themes and icons in Ubuntu session are completely messed up. I expected only my xubuntu session to be different.

No I haven't. Still searching for a solution every now and then though. Worst thing is that windows has it.

comment Can rhythmbox play media on my DLNA TV?
@Takkat, that is a neat piece of hacking, and I got that working, but it gives a horrible (but expected) delay (20sec) on the sound. Not really what I was looking for. I am looking more for something like a DLNA controller.

comment Hybrid Graphics on Ubuntu 12.04 switching to discrete
@cfstras bumblebee is from what I understood to have a muxless setup working, but only works for intel/nvidia, and not intel/radeon. If you are sure you have mux, you might have a switch in the BIOS to choose the graphics you want to boot with.

Did some more research. I found the cause of the problem. See my answer for the details about muxless systems.

I am facing the exact same issue. Did you make any progress on this?

comment System freezes when using vgaswitcheroo
Exact same case for me. I logged a bug at the linux kernel bug tracker and the Ubuntu bug tracer. Does not seem to make any difference though. It has not been updated for half a year now.

comment How to diagnose issues with Java (openJRE and Sun Java) and Firefox 4
using the -l option on update-java-alternatives will only show you a list of installed runtimes, if you run it with -s as in my answer it would also actually "set" the java-6-sun version for use as the default.

comment MySQL GUI Tools
phpMyAdmin is a very nice tool indeed, but it requires running an HTTP server with PHP enabled. MySQL is not only used for web projects.

comment C programing suites/IDEs
If you are able to write an application in native code, like C or C++, I think it is always better to do so. Using a framework like .NET always has a small impact on performance, so it might be better to avoid it. Mono is great to make it easier for porting Windows apps to Linux, but when developing native applications for Linux I personally would rather use open-source technologies.

comment How to enable shutdown timer?
So basically the developers decided to just remove a functionality instead of adding the possibility to disable it with setup? That doesn't sound very logical. Does it? I think the scenario I described above is a good reason to keep that functionality available.

comment How to run two X sessions at the same time?
@George: As long as your Fedora box is running an X server, you will be able to use ssh -X. Basically ssh will make use of the X server on your Fedora box to show you the Ubuntu applications.

comment How to drag and drop files to a places applet. (Like trash can)
Well, I must say I think that is a great idea. The problem is that I don't think an applet is the best approach. I personally feel like applets don't fit well in to the desktop. If you want to continue with this idea make sure you let me know.

comment Run notepad++.exe from terminal
You can just use "wine /home/jon/...". sudo can be skipped as root privileges are normally not required for running wine apps.

comment Install old version of mysql in 10.10
The same action is available through apt-get. The command is "sudo apt-get install packagename=versioncode" package name would be "mysql-server" and versioncode something like "5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6".

Which user did you use to log in to the Samba share? Did you use the username from the user who created the shared folder on notebook 1?
