comment Nice network diagram editor?
+1 Very nice! Controls (like moving/creating objects) are a bit different than usual, but I feel that it could be more efficient than Cacoo with a bit of doc reading. Even though not open source, unlimited files is a great plus over Cacoo. Website says both yED and yEd so not sure about the capitalization.

comment Easily create slideshow?
Resizing pictures is a huge pain, that a dedicated program would avoid.

comment Is there a lightweight tool to crop images quickly?
Once Gthumb has opened the image: Press e > Press C > Move the selection with two mouse down-drag-up (pity, one would have been sufficient) > Click "Crop" (no shortcut afaik) > Press Ctrl+s > Press Alt+F4. Cropping images is a very common activity, so I am still looking for a program that would do this in only one mouse down-drag-up, zero key press, zero click.

comment Nice network diagram editor?
+1 Very nice! I would love to see this set extended. It seems to be Open Source, so I wonder why it is not included by default in Ubuntu's Dia.

comment Boot from Live CD, then install from USB stick? (because CDROM drive extremely slow/faulty)
+1 Great idea! Somehow I was presuming that plop was only for floppies.
