comment USB drive in VirtualBox with a Windows 7 guest
We can't change USB (or other) settings from a running machine. After a shut down of the VM it should work as expected (except missing Windows drivers).

Is the VM still running or in a "saved" state?

If I remember that correctly the Ubuntu installer will automatically use a GPT table for partitioning huge drives.

@Woeistg Sadly the development of Popper was discontinued, and it will not work in releases later than 12.04.

comment auto switching headphones and TV suond
It may be an issue with port detection from your sound card (driver or hardware) then. Consider posting the output of pactl list cards, or see if you can figure out a difference from headphones plugged in or not.

24 says that it loaded the module with an index of 24. You can test now if plugging in your headphones works as expected.

It may be an issue with module-switch-on-port-available. Is it loaded (pactl list short modules)? If not, test with loading it pactl load-module module-switch-on-port-available.

comment Ubuntu in VirtualBox
We can run 64-bit guests even if the host is a 32-bit OS what would make VirtualBox 32-bit too. We need to enable VT-x/AMD-V in the host BIOS to do so. Also see askubuntu.com/questions/308937/…

comment “Built-in Display” Bug after fresh install
Unfortunately this graphics card is not well supported for newer releases. Given their limited life-span on this planet it will never be. There is a German article on how to get a driver for 14.04 installed. Worth a try but not as easy as we all wished it was. In case it worked it'd be cool you posted the steps you took as an own answer under your question to help future visitors.

comment Unable to access BIOS, GRUB menu only
Accessing BIOS is entirely nothing Ubuntu can help you with. It is way before your computer gets in touch with your OS. Try to keep pressing and releasing F2 quickly while you power on your computer until the BIOS menu appears.

comment Why can't the guest OS (Windows XP) detect the USB?
After adding yourself to the groupvboxusers with sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your_username_here> you need to reboot the host. Also note that some USB devices can not be passed through to the VM. You should test with more than one device (e.g. a pendrive).

comment Why can't the guest OS (Windows XP) detect the USB?
What you did is that you added two new groups VirtualBox and Windows XP where in fact you should have added yourself, i.e. username to the existing group vboxusers. See askubuntu.com/a/25600/3940 on how to do that.

This may also interest you: askubuntu.com/questions/988/… - but running Windows programs always is a bit of a hack. Do have a look at Gimp, IMO much better than PE.

comment VirtualBox for Ubuntu Guest and Mac OSX El Capitan Host (Unable to connect to VBoxClient)
You may go through the list I posted here askubuntu.com/a/30446/3940 to make sure prerequisites are met for shared folder support. Also see askubuntu.com/questions/161759/…. If all fails you can also create a network share in your guest Ubuntu (this is what I usually do).
