My computing experience dates back to the eighties when DOS was brand new and home machines ran on CP/M. From building my own systems I have some understanding in hardware and other complicated things but it is my believe that an OS has to be easy to use and to configure. That's why I use Ubuntu.

comment Testdisk only detected 1 folder of 98 folders after I replaced Windows with Ubuntu
If the disk was encrypted there is little chance for recovery. If not then you may be able to recover more on testdisk "deep search", or with photorec (which can recover files if not overwritten but can not recover paths or filenames).

comment Why my VM Ubuntu works always slowly?
You can also try with steps I outlined here: askubuntu.com/questions/289677/… - but the Software Center always is a bit slow.

The ppa only has build for 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 and 13.10. Did you try to install the .deb, or compile from source?

comment Unable to access BIOS in FORSTAR mini laptop
This is an integral part of the NOVATIUM systems. User administration was reduced to a minimum in favour of a (paid) subsrciption plan. They locked BIOS access to prevent installing any other OS. To overcome this you'd need a special software from the manufacturer which to my knowledge is not available to the public (but it's never wrong to ask them). Other than that I agree that this issue is neither related to nor solvable from Ubuntu.

@samgabbay: the Dell Optiplex 745 is a rather old machine. The CPU probably does not support VT-x.

You CPU (which?) probably does not support VT-x (issue grep --color vmx /proc/cpuinfo in a terminal to see). See askubuntu.com/questions/256792/…

comment Install Firefox on lubuntu
As a new user of Linux you may be better off to install stable software from the Ubuntu repositories rather than by downloading source code until you had learned enough to install (and remove) applications from other sources.

comment How to migrate Ubuntu and Windows from Legacy boot to UEFI boot?
Only commenting, as this is not related to Ubuntu but if not booting from an SSD it is not worth the hassle. There is no advantage in booting legacy or UEFI BIOS from a HDD. Only when the UEFI boot is on an SSD some people reported a tiny bit of faster boot time.

comment Best way to wipe HDD with multiple partitions and format into NTFS
See askubuntu.com/questions/57572/… or askubuntu.com/questions/17640/… - the dd command is included on any live session (don't wipe your USB drive!). There should not be the need of formatting to NTFS after that but you can using gparted.

comment Black screen after installing nvidia drivers
We did it differently: after OS installation we added the edgers ppa from a root shell (it wouldn't boot without this driver), installed the 340 driver from there, then rebooted.

comment Black screen after installing nvidia drivers
Did you try with purging all downloaded proprietary Nvidia drivers (including the beta driver) to add the x-org/edgers ppa, then install the appropriate drivers form there? Here installing the 340.xx drivers from this ppa from a root shell worked without any issues on our 750TI. Also see askubuntu.com/questions/61396/…

now this single issue would make a much better, specific question for this site! Before you ask you may want to search a bit to avoid closure as a duplicate. It may have been asked and answered already.

Here on AskUbuntu the only on-topic answer will be Ubuntu where all the tasks you listed can be performed out of the box from a terminal. It is only some additional graphical frontends that may have to be installed in addition. To discuss such questions in more depth a forum such as the Ubuntu forums may be a better place.

comment GPU isn't not working right?
What propietary Nvidia driver did you try to install? Note that the 750TI is not yet supported from open drivers, or proprietary drivers provided from the 12.04 repositories. You will need a driver > 340.xx (at present stable 340.58). See askubuntu.com/questions/61396/…
