comment Both named and dnsmasq serving DNS on port 53?
@zwets Generally, it is certainly not normal for services to be running on the same port, let alone at the same time, from the same host (including the recent 127.0.1.1 invention), on an out-of-the-box installation. This is also a DNS question. How, for example, can DNS zones be served to the public if bind9(the one with the actual zone records) is not listening on 0.0.0.0? How does Ubuntu canonical reconcile this?

comment Both named and dnsmasq serving DNS on port 53?
This is exactly my question. No, not all seems necessarily to be working "as it should"; this is one of many attack angles to eliminate info unrelated to other issues. For instance, XEN bridging side effects, VPN vs. LAN routing, etc.

comment Can't upload .sql file
And to put it into effect, service apache2 reload I don't understand why this isn't the default in the packages. I have seen this issue on several servers (including shared hosting where we don't have root/admin access!)

I can send you 3 deb files made (fglrx_14.200-0ubuntu_.deb, fglrx-amdcccle_14.200-0ubuntu_.deb, fglrx-dev_14.200-0ubuntu_.deb). Yet it logs Error! Same problems! Been struggling with fglrx and crashy Xwindows ever since getting the Acer Aspire laptop. The credit (for the unacceptable quality and product+support failure) goes to ATI however.

comment Install installer package on an installed system?
Also useful if you find yourself in a situation with ONLY a bootable Ubuntu-based Live CD/USB, lacking an installer (like Boot Repair Disk), but otherwise having Synaptic/apt-get and networking.

comment Install installer package on an installed system?
Thank you! What about for LUbuntu? help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Setup (All I had on me was a bootable USB Boot Repair Disk 64bit, but it lacks an installer)

comment HELP! Grub Rescue Mode
None of these suggestions seem to address what can be done at the actual grub rescue> prompt itself, eg.how to continue booting into an alternate partition or USB drive where Linux temporarily is, without having to reboot and rely on outside tools.

comment rollback GPT after failed 13.10 installation
Most of my critical data (my entire Docs subfolder) is backed up almost in realtime via the Google Drive service, so at least that's covered. Including revisions. Instead, the real loss here are the countless hours of collecting, installing and tuning programs within the system, their configurations, media files too large to sync to the a cloud, and so on. Usually it's been easier for me to uncover and repair the damage.
