comment APT-GET: Does APT-GET store its # updates somewhere?
I'm trying to avoid using something that will cause a delay, since the prompt is "rerun" in python every time you hit a new line. I use something similar to your proposal in conky, but I am looking for something quicker. Also trying to avoid using cron to write a separate file.

[chow] (/mnt) >> sudo mount -o remount,rw /mnt/media1 Remounting is not supported at present. You have to umount volume and then mount it once again.

Those commands aren't changing the mod/ownership of the files. I forgot to mention, the drive is ntfs... would that prevent me from achieving this?
