comment How can I suspend/hibernate from command line?
I'm using Xubuntu 15.04. The command systemctl suspend does suspend the computer, but it does not cause the screen to be locked, even though I've checked the "Lock screen when system is going for sleep" checkbox in Settings -> Power Manager -> Security. Anyone have any idea why?

I tried the first command in this answer, and it shut down the computer. I'm using Xubuntu 15.04.

comment Force fsck.ext4 on reboot, but really “forceful”
The same question was asked on Server Fault, and this answer was also the one that worked for me, on an Ubuntu 14.04 system. Just doing the sudo touch /forcefsck and then rebooting did not; editing rcS was necessary.

comment How do you see what packages are available for update
That's a nice bit of command line magic!

comment How to set Monday as the first day of the week in GNOME Calendar applet?
For me, using Xubuntu 14.04, the system-wide solution did not work: after rebooting, the week in the panel's clock (the xfce clock) still began with Sunday even after rebooting. Victor's per-user solution did work, though.

It would be nice if you could repeat the answer here, as links can go stale.

comment 14.04 with FDE and swap is missing
@nstenz: I edited the answer to remove the unnecessary steps about enabling and disabling the root account. Also, I assumed that kasiu meant dev/sdaX on the first two code lines, so edited sdX to sdaX.

comment After installing nginx with Passenger support in '/opt', why won't it start from 'init.d'?
Good advice. Note: the URL of the init file has permanently moved to https://www.linode.com/docs/assets/660-init-deb.sh.

@VictorSergienko That worked for me. Why not submit it as an answer? I'll vote for it.

The package description could certainly explain this better.

"Deprecated", not "depreciated".

I don't think you've gone too far at all. Go on, tell it like it is!
