comment Application does not open in the same workspace when switched during loading
The active workspace at what time? If I click the icon in workspace 1, but then switch to workspace 2 to carry on with my work while the application loads, It stands to reason that I wanted it to load in workspace 1 and NOT Load in workspace 2 and steal focus from my active app while you're at it. In my opinion this is definitely a bug, although it probably won't be regarded as such by the Unity team...

Yes @Dor, that did the trick for everything except chat. The symlink method seems not to work anymore. And the Chat item is still here...

comment How can I toggle between single and dual monitor setup?
Well then just use disper -s to activate only the primary display, or disper -S to activate only the secondary display

comment Is there a way that Unity can remember which terminal window had focus and was raised?
Thanks, but what happens if I have used a bunch of other apps before going back to the terminal? I have to hit alt-tab until my terminal is focused... No, I want to click to button in the launcher and have my terminal windows raise, and whichever one of them had focus put on top and given focus

comment What to use to quickly cut Audio/Video
Thanks for the helpful suggestion, but for what I need they are too complex. Note that I didn't say too difficult to use, just unnecessarily bloated for my purposes. I ended up using openshot

thanks for all your help. When I say any application, that's because I haven't found an application in which links clicked open properly in firefox. I tried Hotot, Gwibber, ubuntu one, empathy, skype, and others. You solution sounded good but did not solve the problem unfortunately. I think my problem is the same as this question askubuntu.com/q/24051/38 only reversed...

@barafu man firefox tells me firefox [OPTIONS] [url] but firefox --help gives the following error: /usr/lib/firefox-4.0.1/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm running 11.04, but the problem could have been there before. I wanted to switch from chrome to firefox when version 4 came out. Gave up because of this issue. Only firefox 4 installed

Great, thank you. Just curious that they didn't think that I would like something displayed on the screen I just plugged in.

Have you tried booting using an older kernel ? I know that on my Vaio, X doesn't even start if I use the latest kernel...

comment How to empty swap if there is free RAM?
That did the trick, the swap was copied to ram. I guess you just need to make sure to have at least the amount of swap used as free ram before running swapoff, right?

comment Photo management with video support
Thanks, but I'm not really convinced by digiKam... I'm trying Picasa in Wine and Lightroom in virtualbox at the moment, and will choose after trying all three for a while. The simplest would be if f-spot just copied my videos to my computer when I import, though, I don't need anything more than that.
