comment True Ubuntu on Chromebook ARM (samsung)
It's not bad, working about the same, pretty much what I expected with 14.04.

comment Should I use xz or lzma compression?
@FaheemMitha: Since this is a post, and not an educational reference or original research, the citation would only be the project page. I assumed since it was from the LZMA-Utils author, and he wrote BOTH utility sets with intention of xz-utils replacing legacy LZMA-Utils, it was self-evident. ...But For anyone who want's to get more details, tukaani.org/lzma.

Nothing I've seen thus far, but it would be an excellent c coding project to consider with libcaca. If it was done properly, with C, it would dramatically improve SDL -> libcaca -> ncurses output.

comment Enable acpi on Ubuntu 13.04 ARM ChromeBook
The acpi package is just utilities that work with active ACPI interfaces. They won't work if ACPI itself isn't active in the kernel. You would already need the /sys/ and /proc/ interfaces to use that package. Which would be impossible, in this circumstance, since the board itself doesn't support ACPI.

This is also what I read on the ChrUbuntu webpage, "A single script that can install any Ubuntu version: 13.10, 12.04.3 LTS, even the latest daily dev image. (Note: ARM Chromebook is currently limited to 12.04.3 as newer versions are broken on ARM)". It appears this script lacks support for the newer releases, when installing on the Samsung Series 3 (ARM). At least as reported by the developer.

@Vincentbeaurain: Crouton isn't native, but ChrUbuntu is native, read my answer for complete explanation.

comment Is it preferable to boot from an SD card or from a USB flash drive?
I also wanted to mention, I prefer using a class 10 UHS-I SD Card. The Chromebook only has those two USB ports, and only one being 3.0, so I felt it was best to keep them free.

comment Is it preferable to boot from an SD card or from a USB flash drive?
I was reading that booting from the ARM Chromebook USB 3.0 had some sort of problem in the past. I wasn't able to find any good recent info though, so might want to test it out.

comment What's the difference between the various printer connections?
@waspinator: I want unsecured connections, under certain circumstances, for example HTTP. I also prefer some unsecured connections on my LAN, specifically when security requires unacceptable complication or overhead... Assuming the service is only available from inside my LAN, and nothing confidential is transmitted over-the-wire. However when security doesn't impose significant complexity or overhead, then I would prefer the secured connection.

comment How do I port a .FON font to a Linux font?
@LimitedAtonement: SFD is Fontforge's native file-format, analogous to Gimp's native XCF. You must export the font from Fontforge, to get the final product. SFD files are great for saving a work in progress, I would also recommend you save one right before your final export. So if you ever need to go back, as creating correct PSF/PSF2 is not trivial, you won't need to recreate all your work.

comment How to change the fallback font for missing languages?
@Clay Smalley: your answer doesn't attempt to address the OP's question. Essentially you didn't let something small, such as lacking knowledge on the subject matter, dissuade you from posting an answer. In this situation, less is more..., or preferably, just post a comment.

comment Installing μTorrent
@user606723: rTorrent is lacking many modern client features. This is without regard to interface, just client capabilities. I've been really happy with transmission-cli, it's both modern and lightweight.

comment evolution mapi for thunderbird
I'm not surprised in the slightest, which is exactly my point. The users want it, they've been asking for it for practically a decade, and all the excuses in the world don't scratch the truth. They just aren't interested, and they were never truly interested.

You would think Thunderbird would have implemented MAPI support, at least for just email support. I mean how many years has this been already? I bet this has been on the wish lists for a decade.

Docbook is the best format for creating documentation. Once your Docbook file is completed, it can be converted to a multitude of formats. XHTML, Man Pages, etc ...

comment What is the use of *-doc packages?
Unfortunately consistency is not always 100%, regarding community created software/packages. Obviously this has dramatically improved over the years. I did consider the possibility, which is why I could only speak '... Generally ...'. Additionally I did emphasize the importance of review.

comment Brasero 12.04 Precis, cdrecord instead of wodim. cdrtools instead of cdrkit. Plugin only wants wodim
Hardlinks work, Symlinks do not. Now Brasero still detected my version as 'old', so it's become a wash. Thank you for that forum post, it did point me on an acceptable direction.

That link mentions the usage of hardlinks, which might work as I only tried symlinks. When I try that suggestion, I'll report back and consider acceptance.

And I also notice, your answer is not even attempting to address my question. It might be an acceptable comment, under a related post, but in this case it's better off deleted. However I do appreciate your time, regardless of this situation.
