comment Bad 3D Performance in Ubuntu 12.04
@Force, that is very significant and defiantly worth consideration. Open a new question, explaining your setup/situation. I will be on look out for it, and respond with immediateness.

@Pandem: How did you conclude your card was under performing, was it just from reading FPS scores? Have you noticed poor performance from your usual applications and/or WM/DE? As I stated at comment below my answer, your framerates are lower than expected considering your HD 7850.

OK strictly speaking about your configuration, everything checks out correctly. As far as your framerates, they are NOT terrible... but they are lower than than your card would indicate. My HD 5670, run glxgears at ~5300 FPS and fgl_glxgears at ~610 FPS. I also have a comment on the way for your question, so make sure to check and respond.

What is your framerate on fgl_glxgears, which is different from regular glxgears and comes with FGLRX.

@Steve: When you post something preformatted, such as output from free, you need to format it as code. Either enclose text in backticks, indent each line with 4 spaces, or highlight it all and click the toolbar button. It's much more readable. I'll do yours this time.

comment 12.04 right-click on desktop, change background, application crashes
Is it crashing just the application, or are you having X.org completely crash? When X.org crashes it places you back at Lightdm, and you have to type your password again.

comment AMD/ATI drivers from website vs. proprietary drivers in Ubuntu 12.04 Repos?
Yes it follows the newest available driver releases, give or take the required time for Ubuntu packaging. If you must go newer, than you are forced to deal with the AMD driver installer. It works acceptably, but a packaged installation is normally preferred.

comment 12.04 Stability, Compatibility and Operational Problems
@Sun Dial: I also second the stability problems with 12.04, constant crashing. for me it's often after touching gtk3.4 applications. I asked a question, not expecting an answer... it seems like the really tough questions always become tumbleweeds.

comment gtk3 theme not working
I'm a just a regular user.. and I am unhappy about this as well. Its not as if we even had an abundance of gtk3 themes, we were still feeling the sting from our last transition.
