That's odd. Can you provide the output of dpkg -l (this will generate a list of installed packages). As this will generate a lot of output, use paste.ubuntu.com or dpkg -l | pastebinit (this will copy the output and save it in paste.ubuntu.com, giving you a link)

How can you tell they are duplicated? Do you get multiple launchers when searching in the dash?

Also if you want those scripts to be available to all users, /usr/local/bin may be a better choice.

Probably you have many kernel versions installed. What is the output of dpkg --get-selections | grep -E 'linux-image|linux-headers' and df -h /boot?

What you mean by "not loading properly"? Have you enabled 3D and installed "guest additions" (this is the name in Virtualbox, may be different in VMWare). How much ram is reserved to your virtual machine?

If you only want to test compatibility with your app, why not just downloading one of the VM provided by Oracle? You get everything already installed and have no risk of screwing your existing system...

In your case probably nothing (you may need to specify the full path to python3.3 if virtualenv does not find it). I just added it so if anyone comes with a similar problem knows that has to change that bit.

Try to do sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. I am on 14.04 also, my installed version is 3.9.5 and it runs fine.

Biopython requires Python 3.3 or later (or Python 2.6 or 2.7). Python 3.2 detected indeed it is using 3.2 instead of your version. Try to replace the symlink: sudo mv /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/python3_backup and then sudo ln -s PATH/TO/PYTHON3.3 /usr/bin/python3. You can find the path to python3.3 using which python3.3. NOTE: this may break something, so the virtualenv option is prefered.

Sorry, what I meant was the contents of the file: cat ~/.pip/pip.log.

You need to install postgresql-client-common if you want it to be in the path. Either way it should be available in /usr/lib/postgresql/YOUR_PG_VERSION/bin/pg_dump (14.04)

What Ubuntu version are you using? Can you get the version from heroku version? If not what is the output of apt-cache policy heroku-toolbelt?
