comment How do I add a Windows Live account to Empathy?
@gamerchick: Thanks! When I had the problem, I didn't see anything in help on Hotmail or GMail. Recognizing the issue on IM was what gave me the idea it was my password, so I never did check Microsoft's support info for Windows Live Messenger. I wonder if many people know about the issue at all.

@Andrew: I originally thought this was your problem, too, but then I thought of something else; I've posted an answer with a guess at what's happening.

Exactly. When it comes to instant messaging, Windows Live is simply a rebranding of MSN.

comment Compiz slow under proprietary nvidia driver
Note: those are the drivers for the amd64 architecture, so you shouldn't install them if you're running 32-bit Ubuntu.

I wish I understood how those awk commands work.

For those with permissions to install apps, it appears xpra has been in the Universe repositories since Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)

Removed video tag, which seems irrelevant to the question's content.

comment How can I reduce the number of TTYs?
However, no disrespect intended: I don't care if you want to remove TTYs; I just want people to know whether it really matters before they decide to change system files over the issue.

If there's anything to be gained by removing any of the TTYs (aka virtual terminals), it's probably not worth the time spent removing them. Lifehacker suggested removing extra TTYs to improve performance and this comment does a good job explaining why you won't notice the difference.

comment Disable Tomboy System Tray
It would be great if you would note which version number adds this feature (or even the first version you know of that has this feature, even if you're not sure that's the version that added it). That way, people can just check their version number instead of having to look up the PPA. Thanks! :)

@Olli: I think you mean ARP packets, not ARP packages.

This question might be better on the Webapps StackExchange site.

(That is, assuming sudo apt-get install tex-common was the command you ran.)

comment dpkg behaving strangely?
It appears that he was having a problem because apt couldn't find a package called texlive-base in any of his computer's repositories. So apt-get install texlive-base will probably return the same error.

comment dpkg behaving strangely?
Oof! I've been hit by a wall of text! Seems like the relevant parts are the command sudo apt-get install tex-common and the result No packages found matching texlive-base.

I second that. It's probably a bug.
