comment Dell Vostron hangs/freezes randomly after AC power or wifi swtiched off
My Dell Vostro 3700 running 12.04 64-bit suddenly freezes (permanently, without any log messages) with or without wifi (using STA driver), when running on battery. I've added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux pcie_aspm=off" and will report back.

comment Need a PCIe desktop graphics card for dual-monitor
Yes, I'm not happy with NVidia's Linux drivers. But I would like hear from someone who has a particular AMD/ATI PCIe card that works brilliantly for desktop dual-monitor display on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04

The issue here is specifically around which card has the best driver support for Linux. I'm sure AMD Eyefinity and Matrox dual-monitor support works brilliantly on Windows, but I want to know that I'm not going to get buggy or slow behaviour under Ubuntu 12.04.

comment Graphics card recommendation for dual-HD output?
Only thing is, I need to find someone who has actually tried the Nvidia GTS 450 in a desktop dual-monitor configuration under Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit... else I can't be sure it will work.

comment How do I boot Ubuntu Cloud images in vmware?
Not keen on using extlinux, or modifying the image prior to boot. The cloud image comes compressed in qcow2 format, which you can't mount directly.

No, but I think I'm going to try putting the "OVF Environment" XML file in an ISO that's mounted during first boot.

Nvidia GTS 450 looks like just the right card. Dual output, reasonable price.

Ok, clarified. Desktop computer, two external monitors as single X screen.

comment Is Acrobat reader X coming to Ubuntu?
Sometime in the future some of us will encounter important forms requiring features not supported by Adobe Reader 9.4.6. Without Adobe Reader X for Linux, where will we be then?

comment Ruined music collection with Banshee
Maybe blank the corrupted artist field and have Picard match from album+title only? It should be a small minority that have multiple artists for the same album+title. On prevention, I have an USB external hard drive and use rsync to quickly freshen the backup of my collection before reorganising. rsync is hundreds of times quicker than a full copy.

comment Moving Windows from left to right screen in Unity
@DrSAR I had uninstalled ccsm due to my problems in 78237. I've tried it again and indeed the launcher disappeared. Updated answer. To get the launcher back, remove ~/.config/compiz-1

comment Should I use btrfs or Ext4 for my SSD?
The articles are Sep 2011, Aug 9 2010 and May 29 2009 respectively. Focusing on the latest because I assume btrfs would be evolving over the last 2 years. The btrfs+LZO chart on page 4 is amazing for sequential read and write performance, but btrfs does badly with random writes so its definitely no to btrfs for DBs and VM images. I guess with root partition the load is mostly random reads, for which its not much better than ext4.
