comment How do I configure Openbox to work a little bit better?
Do you mean you want the computer to run an Openbox session that only gives them access to Firefox? That would be easy: set up the menu.xml to only have that option. I don't understand what people are logging in and out of, however. Surely not the Openbox session..? And what is the non-active link?

comment Maximum time for which a Linux PC can be UP?
Not an answer to the question (hence the comment), but there are other, good reasons to turn things off when you aren't using(!) them (e.g., avoid pointless power consumption).

comment Can Ubuntu open and run Microsoft Word files?
What does "There's a provision for that" mean? Who's making a provision?

comment How do I copy contents of a file and concatenate it into a new file?
Oh, maybe you're right! The example 'file 2', then, is very misleading. (Will delete my answer once it's confirmed.)

Or use "back ticks" -- i.e., a ` -- instead of single quotation marks...

comment How to delete an annotation in Evince?
I can confirm this worked for removing annotations: gvfs-set-attribute /path/to/file.pdf metadata::evince::annotations ''. Evince 3.6.0 / Ubuntu 12.10.

comment How can I configure the terminator terminal to always be on top?
Another possibility might be tilda. In its 'general' section of its preferences setting, there is 'display on all workspaces', which works as you describe. If you want to 'multiplex' the tilda, you can use screen or (what I prefer) tmux.

comment How to upgrade kile2.1 beta 4 to kile-2.1.3 in ubuntu 11.04?
If you don't know how to extract a tarball (in this case tar xjf kile-2.1.3.tar.bz2), you make not want to install by hand. The README contains pretty standard build instructions, however. (I'd uninstall your system-installed version first.)

comment How do I set a “custom” browser as default in Preferred Applications
Thanks! This was driving me crazy, and I didn't notice the end of the MimeType line at first, starting with the x-scheme-hander stuff: that was the crucial addition in my case. (Ubuntu 12.10, using openbox as the WM.)
