Programming

I program client and server side code in JavaScript, CoffeeScript, SQL, Java, C++ and many other languages using Vim or Eclipse. Other skills: Linux, git, screen, vi, awk, shell script.

Science

I am writing my dissertation on "Visualization-Driven Data Aggregation", digging deep into several data management topics, such as dimensionality reduction, data aggregation, and relational algebra, but also in computer graphics topics, such as line rendering, line simplification, and data visualization in general. I publish scientific papers on top-level conferences, such as VLDB.

Open Source Software

I am not involved in any OSS project, but I use and advocate OSS for my job and at home. The two most important gems of open source software that I currently rely on are LyX and Inkscape. I use them for literally everything.

But doesn't that contradict to the xorg.conf-free configuration model that Ubuntu adopted since several releases? You say there is now way around that? I still remember the many hours spent tweaking my xorg.conf (multi monitor) in 2006 ;). I do not want to go back, I'd rather use the old driver.

can you give me some details how i can set this up. I do not have an xorg.conf. Do I set this option in the .nvidia-settings-rc?

I already have it, but thx for the hint. I thought the compiz settings would not work for unity2D (using 2D because it is more compatible with my fullscreen wine games). I could delete my shortcuts in the ubuntu settings and move them to the compiz settings. Very good! The compiz detection works much more intuitive, now I can again use my lazy shortcuts. Answer accepted!
