Did Ubuntu detect your Wi-Fi adapter at all? Go to System Settings then open Network If your Wi-Fi card was installed properly then you should see both type of connections inside the Network panel.

comment VLC installation problem on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
@saiarcot895 that is the actual solution to his original question, however his machine has an underlying problem with the sources that also needs to be addressed for the solution to work. The limitation of this "blog" like WebApp is not adequate for troubleshooting complex issues that does not fit the simple Q&A pattern.

Correct Ubuntu plays all the popular media formats out of the box, if you don't like the default players, there are many other alternatives like Gnome Player, SM Player, Audacious, XBMC, etc. That's just a small sample of the popular ones, there are of course many many more to choose from.

comment Error while installing skype
You need to tell us which version of Ubuntu you are running? Lucid was for 10.04 LTS. Are still running Ubuntu 10.04? or perhaps newer Ubuntu version 11, 12, 13, or 14? Skype is now part of the Canonical in newer versions.

You'll have to provide us with more details. Like what are the hardware specification you selected for the virtual machine, how many GB or RAM, or much hard drive space, video RAM, etc.

comment How to list all installed packages?
While the above simple answers are good for the general user. This method by far is the best for backtracking all the customizations done to the machine, as it also shows what was removed, or added, from the base image, as it list them in the sequence it was performed, and helps you remember which is the correct sequence to add them back in another system.
