comment User menu in Gnome Shell (Gnome 3.4) - entries missing
@jP_wanN Ok, I'll try to do that - thanks! Maybe I'll just give it a another try with a fresh installation. Actually I think I was wrong when I though I'd need the new gnome shell version 3.4.

@jP_wanN The linked answer says "a lot of the 3.4 packages will be installed by default minus a few that will be kept at 3.2 for stability reasons". Well, yeah, that does not say that it is a good idea to use these packages, but with 3.2 the extensions weren't working well.

comment Why is Firefox Prism not in the repositories anymore?
Thanks for you hints. I thought there must be an alternative. Really strange that there were 3 applications and none of them is continued nor available as official download. I gave up and created my own stand alone application. I'll add an answer how to do so, when it is finished.

Pleas provide the output of ssh serhan@serhan-Lenovo-B560. I think there is a wrong $ at the end of the line, but I don't think that this causes the error message.

comment How to reduce time in apt-get update?
You can change the download server in the Software center -> Software Sources -> Download from. Select "other" and then "Select Best Server". This might help a bit.

comment Doesn't suspend when closing lid on a Dell Inspiron N5110
Yep, that's what I meant. We need more information what is actually happening. I'm not an expert in this, but there are ways to get debugging information for suspend problems for the case, that your screen just turns black, but doesn't suspend and wake up correctly.

Why do you think that it doesn't suspend? What does it do? Does it turn of the screen? What about the LEDs? The battery can empty quite fast also in suspend mode.

comment Upstart script: Detect shift key down at boot
@bambuntu What do you mean exactly with "remaster"? I wrote in the answer of the other question: "Note that after a kernel update, you'd have to change your grub menu manually if you follow this instructions! (You can improve this answer and describe how to edit the scripts in /etc/grub.d/ accordingly.´)" To clarify things: the file /boot/grub/grub.cfg contains the information for the GRUB menu, but this file is created automatically by the scripts in /etc/grup.d. That's why you should remove the execute bit there. Changing grup.cfg is easier than the scripts, but uglier.

@bambuntu Sorry, I hit ENTER accidentally. BTW: Your step-by-step explanation is great, but probably it would be better to edit our answers instead your question.

comment Upstart script: Detect shift key down at boot
@bambuntu Following my suggestion, the script is totaly independent from the grub menu. It just reads the selection from /proc/cmdline. It depends what you want to do and when it should run where you should place it. This can be in /etc/rc.local, a run level script or even after user login to start several application (as in the linked Q&A). I don't know enough details about the upstart config files in /etc/init to tell you how this could work. But Tuminoid's solution might be a better approach in your case, I'm not sure.

As @Tuminoid pointed out, copying things in /etc/init sounds like a dirty way. Maybe you could describe a bit more detailed what should be different in the configurations?

Just to clarify things, when a single click is mistakenly interpreted as double click event, you really mean one single click and not two single clicks?
