comment Unable to find microphone in ubuntu 14.04 LTS
I'm using 16.04LTS which may be somewhat different from 14.04. I assume you have clicked on System Setting, Sound? Inside the sound GUI I have 4 tabs, the second of which is Input. My system has detected a webcam microphone as well as a "Rear Microphone" (mine is plugged into the back of the computer). I assume your mike is working and the connection is good?

comment how can I update the path to Android Studio?
Great answer which I hope will help others. The only "problem" is that you are using the version I upgraded from. In 2.0 it no longer appears where you show it. Instead there is a configure wheel at the bottom and it is one of the options. (I may have used the desktop entry when I started with 1.5.1 but I no longer remember.) In any case your answer is very much to the point.

comment kernel 4.2.0-35-generic doesn't boot correctly
I am back to 4.2.0-34 since the upgrade which I did this morning again failed. There appeared the usual icon to upgrade and I activated it the way I always do. I suppose there might be a problem with a driver but I have updated dozens of times and never ran into a problem. Likewise if the driver was bad, how come it is working with 4.2.0-34? I guess if nobody else sees a problem, there was some fault in the update process.

comment Does RecordMyDesktop require a mic to record audio?
Their documentation says recordMyDesktop offers also the ability to record audio through ALSA, OSS or the JACK audio server. I have used ALSA and JACK which are both supposed to work.

comment can I make the dvd more sensitive
Maybe I didn't make the point clear enough. If I have a "good" DVD, it will read, no problem. These DVDs are really unreliable, about 50% don't work. I am talking about borderline cases. In those cases Ubuntu shows nothing whereas Windows will show the contents and in many cases let me copy the files. There seems to be some sort of "test" which Ubuntu fails and Windows passes. Maybe Windows allows a higher error rate? In fact what I can do in Windows is copy the files which are still alive, and I am surprised that I can't do the same thing in Ubuntu.

comment can I make the dvd more sensitive
I see that I don't currently have ubuntu-restricted-extras, which I can add. Still I'm not at the level of playback of movies, and these movies did in fact work from the same DVD media when the DVD RW was in better health. At this stage I just want to see files and maybe copy them to new media. At the file level, should I need restricted extras?

comment pdf documents in evince have no links
Sorry you are correct that the text just looks like a link. I picked this up on a biology course on Coursera and it never occurred to me that someone made a bad document. In any case evince is OK.

comment A java program with a long title prints nothing on titlebar
I have java version "1.8.0_66" but I saw the problem in 1.7 as well. Maybe it is connected to 15.10, 64 bit. It works well on 15.10, 32 bit. I can't figure out what could possibly cause this behaviour on 2 different 64 bit machines.

comment Lubuntu not showing Wifi
On some laptops there is a set of 4 buttons on the top next to the power button. On my MSI, it is the 3rd button which controls the hardware. It look like a circle with an arrow going through it. It cycles through 4 states controlling both the wifi and the blue tooth.

comment How to change administrator username?
I followed your instructions and indeed the user name was changed. If I look with Nautilus at Computer -> Home I see only the new user name. What is still strange is when I boot from a shutdown, the original user name still comes up at the login stage. Where is the original name still stored?
