comment External USB3 HDD works in USB 2.0 port, but not in USB 3.0 port
You wrote IIRC. I looked it up and wanted it to be written as a statement if anyone else wants the information. As you probably know, the xhci driver returns negative errno values, which are easy to lookup.

comment External USB3 HDD works in USB 2.0 port, but not in USB 3.0 port
I unplugged it from the working USB 2.0 port and then plugged it into the USB 3.0 port and it worked as expected. Thanks for the tip!

comment Why are the installed linux header files empty?
Didn't work. I also looked at the file: /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-3.13.0-37-generic_3.13.0-37.64_amd64.deb and did a manual unpack and the files were empty as a result. Manual unpack was with: dpkg-deb -x *.deb /tmp/extract/

comment Why are the installed linux header files empty?
Two questions really. 1) Why are the files empty? 2) How can I get just the header files without installing linux-source?

comment Why does Nautilus hang while opening home folder?
Do you have any smb mounted Windows Shares? Maybe one is disconnected and Nautilus is hanging on the ~/.gvfs directory.

comment How to test 3d acceleration?
I had to type: sudo apt-get install mesa-utils to install it and the FPS was synched to my vertical refresh, so it was capped at 60 fps.

comment Accessing home directory hangs
@Caesium, Thank You. I forgot that I mounted a Windows share in a directory in my home directory. I'm not yet sure what is wrong with my share/mount, but when I forced it to unmount, everything in the home directory went back to normal.

comment iwl3945 vs. iwlwifi, what are the differences?
FYI, I was able to lower my power consumption with: sudo iwconfig wlan0 txpower 5dBm Since this driver does not allow setting the power timeout. YMMV.
