With the latest release, mobile broadband should work out of the box. Alternatively you can use your manufacturers or service providers package if the provide one for linux.

Its not clear what problem you're facing. If you are installing a separate package then you won't get an option in network manager.

You certainly could do so but I think Firefox sync does exactly what you want. If you absolutely want to go ahead then I could tell you what directory you would need creating symlinks to.
