comment Can't boot into Ubuntu 15.10 without 'idle
When you say "unable to shutdown" – is it similar to askubuntu.com/questions/632591/… ? And what kernel versions have you tried?

comment Replace xscreensaver With gnome-screensaver (Xubuntu)
Is there an "outdated" tag for questions? light-locker should take care of this use-case in Xubuntu if all you want is screen blanking (except for on those systems where it's buggy, see bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/… ), while gnome-screensaver 1) also requires entering password twice, and 2) can't auto-lock on XFCE without also running gnome-session, see bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5927

I get the same lines in my dmesg, but don't have that package installed. See also bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1492764

What system/BIOS was this? (Lenovo hasn't yet released an updated BIOS for my processor architecture.)

(Lenovo support said they'd notify the BIOS people, I don't feel to confident though.)

Yeah, the only USB related setting I found was one to "disable USB", which I don't want to do since I don't know how I'd turn it back on again then :-)
