comment How does one remove applications installed through “python setup.py install”?
@PKKid pip install http://example.com/path/to/zipball works. For a local path use pip install ~/projects/foo/.

comment How do I enable the “Other” user for login with Active Directory?
@foobarbecue, check that topic again. It appears things have changed with v14.04, and lightdm-set-defaults has been deprecated.

comment likewise-open | 14.04 | other easy way to connect AD?
For me, tab completion in terminal shells is broken for AD user; from here, I think sudo /opt/pbis/bin/config LoginShellTemplate /bin/bash might fix that (for new users only?). Also there's a note that 50-unity-greeter.conf needs to be edited instead for Lubuntu 14.04.

"disbale" should probably be "disable", yes?

Thanks for pitching in. vdfuse has already been provided as an answer though. Please improve that answer instead of adding a duplicate.

comment How to setup Automount/Autofs
this finally works for me, though I followed a long and circuitous route to get here, so the solution may be incomplete. Part of it least involved hard coding the server ip into /etc/hosts

comment How to setup Automount/Autofs
thank you for this suggestion. It did not lead to a solution for me, but I think I may have deeper network issues at play, for instance ping ubuntu-server does not resolve, I have to use ip.

comment How to setup Automount/Autofs
Thanks for helping. The /net line does nothing for me, however /smb does get me partway: after adding that and restarting autofsls /smb/192.168.1.123 shows the share names I expect, I just can't open any of them.

comment Error when trying to get movies off my Camera
gphotofs solved it, but not in the manner indicated! After installing gphotofs selecting the camera from the Places menu opens a Nautilus window showing the contents of the camera as standard usb storage device.

comment Access server by host name?
At first I thought this wasn't working for my network, but learned you need to append .local to the hostname, e.g. ping basement-server.local

crazy idea: is it possible to have filezilla, or similar, connect to two remote servers at once? i.e. not show 'Local site' and 'Remote site' but 'Site A' and 'Site B'? and transfer direct between?

comment Blank screen after Switch User or Resume
conducting the monitor power saving test seems to be a reliable means of causing the problem, though the number of times it takes to black out and not return is inconsistent (range of 3 to 10 times).
