That looks easy. Does user mean you have to have your own admin user with login on the remote machine? Does it have to be a static address? Is it possible to use instead user@hostname-laptop?

@Zacharee1 I've been seeing that a lot as a solution. I think I was just double checking if there are others. I'm definitely going to try it now.

comment How to change desktop icon size?
@zarpio This is because you're using the newer "dconf-editor." There's really very little reason to use this anymore for the same issue. There are better GUI fixes available like from the other answers. But if you must, since the editor controls offer more minutiae, the tree in the dconf Editor for nautilus has been moved to "org/gnome/nautilus."

@SamWatkins Yeah. The folders don't stay ugo+rwx. I've only had problems though when games are updated. The game is locked to the user who initiated the update so that it can't be touched by others until the update finishes on the initial user. Others can't continue the update it while this is going on; it gives a disk write error. I think when the update is done, everything works fine again, since I've only noticed problems when updating. It sucks, unfortunately.

comment HDMI audio to Samsung TV not working Ubuntu 14.04
Thanks. This worked for me. My issue (14.04) was with Nvidia through HDMI. I don't know what exactly I did; I just tinkered with the settings until sound came on.

comment My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?
Thanks! Mine had been booting into a black screen. I didn't follow most of what's here, but I found a way to enter recovery mode since the shift method didn't work for me. In the end, the fix was a grub update in recovery mode.

comment My steam won't start!
I had a similar error messages so I tried this out and it worked. I couldn't have thought that it was a graphics diver issue because Steam worked on one user account but not on another. I just installed the open-source driver then started Steam. I didn't have to re-install.

The driver works fine now as-is with kernel 3.13 from upgrading to 14.04.
