How do I copy to DVD my VirtualBox Windows data? I could not enable Passthrough. This answer is selected for the suggestion that the Windows documents should be copied to Ubuntu and then burned by means of Ubuntu. A deep tree structure was tested and found to be intact. An Excel file was reloaded from the DVD and found to be intact. |

How do I copy to DVD my VirtualBox Windows data? BTW, this is a very unfortunate way to go. My virtual machine will be a 50 GB backup whereas my data typically are less than 5 GB. I never found much use for backing up an operating system. |

How do I copy to DVD my VirtualBox Windows data? As an experiment, I added to Shared Folders the /cdrom folder from ubuntu. The Machine, Settings, Storage, IDE Controller, Passthrough is still greyed out. |

How do I copy to DVD my VirtualBox Windows data? Guest Additions has long been installed. The DVD drive has been selected in Machine > Settings > Storage and it is checked in Device > DVD. I have never had any problems reading the DVD drive from inside VirtualBox + Windows. |

How do I copy to DVD my VirtualBox Windows data? I mean I will accept any solution endorsed by people with practical experience or inside knowledge. Those types of solutions are lower risk. If I burn the ext4 .vdi file, that's okay but obviously less efficient than restoring individual data as needed from a DVD containing NTFS Windows data. |
