comment how do I limit the number of open torrents in transmission?
If it lists the dependencies, try installing them. if not, or if that doesn't work try launchpad.net/~transmissionbt/+archive/ppa/+files/… and launchpad.net/~transmissionbt/+archive/ppa/+files/…

Go to Help -> About. Check you are on Version 2.41 If not install launchpad.net/~transmissionbt/+archive/ppa/+files/… which will just put everything to the most recent version run sudo dpkg -i transmission_2.41-0ubuntu0.11.10.0_all.deb to install in terminal or open in the software center.

Check for updates using the Update Manager, there is a chance i got the package names wrong, or didn't list all of them.

comment Why is there a minimize button in the Unity Dashboard?
I've noticed that too. I think it's how the buttons are supposed to look when you click on them, but is acting weird because this one doesn't do anything.

Did you install the PPA and updates? Ubuntu won't recognise the update unless you add the PPA.

comment Html5 videos from Youtube aren't loading in Google Chrome
You can test general HTML 5 Video Support for you browser at video.eustasy.co.uk I'd suggest clicking the top video unless you have a fairly large screen. Note: My HTML5 Video Works Fine (Chrome 14, Ubuntu 11.10).

comment Why does my NTFS partition mount as read only?
Running that command results in the system prompting me to remove ntfsprogs, which i looked up, and doesn't seem to list anything about writing to ntfs generally, so i removed it. This seems to have fixed it, i think i installed ntfsprogs when looking to run a disk check under ubuntu due to bad sectors (10 of them). Thanks!

Is it possible to set this to happen whenever a new user is created, rather than using user specific directories?

Changing "/desktop/gnome/interface/icon_theme Eustasy" doesn't seem to have effected it.

comment HSDPA modem only working on certain USB ports
If the number of ports in which it works reduced over time, it might be something wearing out, a physical problem. USBs tend to work or not, and not change unless something makes them.

I'm marking this as my solution, not because it fixed it, but because it answers the original question the best.

comment Does Ubuntu support USB 1.0?
Disk Utility does not show it. I booted vista and ran chkdsk, which reported no errors or bad sectors. I formatted under Disk Management, it refused to format as NTFS, returning an error at the end, but worked fine in FAT32, which was what it was originally in. It still is not detected by Ubuntu, even in Disk Utility
