comment If an external hard drive worked on 10.04 and 10.10, will it work on 11.10?
I didn't even think of making windows able to access ext3/4. Can that be done? *googles

Some of these are not formatted properly, so can't be written too, but can be formatted from ubuntu. Other hard-drives can come with software that you have to use to "unlock" them, and these generally are windows only.

I have to be able to access under windows too, so ext4 is a no-go. Apparently some were badly formatted, but the rest seems all good.

Windows does have issues with Drives with more than 4 Primary partitions, but you can still have more using extended partitions.

I was looking for anything Ubuntu based, official or otherwise. I understand that it's probably borderline.

I don't understand how this is off-topic (or nearing there).

comment How to change the Dash icon in the Unity Launcher?
Junjie W is right, in this folder if you replace launcher_bfb.png you replace the logo. It, may look like a transparent file but it is actually white with opacity. The background and edges are also in there.

comment how do I limit the number of open torrents in transmission?
In that case the latest version (with the feature you're after) might only be for 11.10. I would try installing it, i'm pretty sure you can, just the appindicator won't show up in 11.04

comment What is the best AntiVirus application available for non-technical users?
Accepted Answer: Provides the simplest GUI for Updating and Scanning. ClamTK is a similar GUI for ClamAV, but is difficult to get to show up-to-date for all three areas, whereas avast! is one button. Dislike BitDefender because it doesn't play at all with the theme. Disappointed AVG doesn't have any interface, loved it on Windows.

@GeorgeEdison Fixed the links (someone fixed the first two and broke the second two) and added bitdefender.

In 11.10? That's what i'm using too. Because Transmission is default software, it's appindicator is whitelisted (i think). It's working for me in Unity.

Again, so long as it's simple to use once it's done. I had nothing but trouble with updating ClamAV last time, but i can test that before shipping.

I am looking more at shipping to home use pre-installed. I am aware i'd have to talk to practically any software manufacturer about that.

I'd checked BitDefender, but thought it was a pay only programme, due to the Buy License bit on the right of that first page. What's the interface like?
