I am a new Ubuntu user, some past experience of Debian, but nothing to write home about.

I am a perl enthusiast on StackOverflow.com, and I am loving the Ubuntu experience. Right now, I barely see any reason to stick with Windows.

Not quite sure. In the textfile I have it says "Intel 300Mbit Wireless", which seems kind of generic to me. Connections says "FIREWIRE,RJ-11,RJ-45,USB 2.0,WLAN," The wireless should be turned off, though, since I use cable internet. There was some hiccup in Windows, when the machine would spontaneously reboot, change the boot device order and try to boot over the wireless. Very strange. I had to fix it in the setup each time.

@bcbc That's a nice trick, thank you. Posted specs. I do not know the specs for the external HDD, other than that it is a WD Elements 1,000 Gb. Has both a USB connection and it's own power supply.

comment Gimp colours do not fill correctly
I need to preserve the existing size and format. The only things that may change is the colors. If I edit it with full color, and save it as limited, won't that be the same as editing it with the limited palette? I.e. the colors in the savefile will reverse?

comment Is there a way that Unity can remember which terminal window had focus and was raised?
You can hold alt-tab to get a visual list of windows. If all else fails, you can do ctrl-alt-arrow to change to another desktop, where you keep your terminals.

comment What start up scripts are executed when a terminal is opened in Ubuntu?
Perhaps you should post your .bashrc anyway.

@Marcel Looks like it might be the same answer, I saw that in the search, but didn't connect it to my question, with the iPython and Shell keywords.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have tried that, but I find it a bit... finicky. It will not allow me to scroll through commands beginning with the partial, it only shows the first. It also searches the entire command for the character, which is sort of useless.
